Help From Heoro: How to Find Indirect Costs of Cancer Care in China

At ISPOR DC, we were asked whether we had any cost and resource use studies from China. Here’s how to use heoro.com to find studies reporting indirect costs associated with cancer in China.

There is a growing need for economic modellers to find data on costs and resource use in China, and several of the people we spoke to at ISPOR DC were interested in knowing more about how Heoro.com could help them identify such studies. Please note that the heoro.com database indexes any study that reports data on productivity losses and ability to work, school attendance, and informal care, accommodation and transport costs as indirect costs.

Here’s how to find relevant abstracts:

1. Log into www.heoro.com(external link) and go to the Dashboard.

2. Add “Neoplasms” to the first, Disease, selection box.

3. In the Location box below that, add “China”. Leave the Boolean option box beside the Location box as “AND”.

4. In the Study type selection box on the right side of the screen, add “Costs and resource use studies” from the menu, with the Boolean option as “AND”.

5. In the Costs & Resource Use menu that appears beneath the study type box, select “Indirect costs”. Keep the Boolean option in front of the box as “AND”.

6. Click on the “Search” button.

The search found 12 abstracts. Of these:

  • 8 were primary studies measuring costs and resource use, and four were economic evaluations that included indirect costs
  • 4 assessed indirect costs in colorectal cancer
  • 3 assessed indirect costs in hepatocellular cancer or other Hepatitis B-related diseases
  • 2 reported indirect costs associated with human papillomavirus (HPV) screening or cervical cancer
  • 1 study each reported indirect costs in breast cancer, cranial base cancer and haematological malignancies
